Free Laptops Available to Those Who Qualify

Spectrum

Free internet via Spectrum!

  1. Starts on 03/16/2020, and is good for 60 days.
  2. Available to all households with K-12 or college students who do not currently subscribe to Spectrum internet services.
  3. People will receive 100 mb/second of Wi-Fi
  4. No installation charges.
  5. Call the above number and speak with a sales agent.
  6. Spectrum has opened all hotspots for public use. Download the app "Wifi Finder" to find one close to you.

Developments from Data Providers

Below is a list of providers and their data/billing policies during the current emergency:

  • AT&T: AT&T is providing free access to its WiFI hot spots throughout the country
  •  (Links to an external sitethroughout the country. T-Mobile: T-Mobile is providing unlimited data to all current customers who have plans with data for the next 60 days. It will also provide additional data to mobile hotspot users.
  • Verizon: Verizon is waiving late fees and suspending service termination for customers negatively impacted by the global crisis. 
  • California Connects: California Community Colleges students are eligible for this mobile hotspot service powered by Sprint, which offers nationwide 4G LTE connectivity and allows users to connect up to 10 WiFi-enabled devices for up to 10 hours on a single charge for only $19.99 a month.

Additionally, as part of the Keep Americans Connected Pledge, AT&T, Comcast, Charter, Cox, Google Fiber, Spring, Verizon, and T-Mobile will not disconnect any customers for the next 60 days regardless of payment status.

Microsoft Office

All students at Los Angeles City College have free access to Microsoft Office products via their student @student.laccd.edu email account. 

You can access your free Office suite via your email, use the cloud version, or download the product to your own, personal computer. All at no cost. Visit the Office 365 for LACC Students page for more info and instructions. 

Using Office 365

  1. Log on to SIS (Peoplesoft Student Information Systems)
    • Students: visit lacitycollege.edu ⇨ For Students ⇨ Student Email (SIS)
      or myCollege.LACCD.edu
    • Faculty: visit lacitycollege.edu ⇨ For Faculty & Staff ⇨ PeopleSoft SIS log-in
      or myCollege.LACCD.edu
  2. On the top of the page, select “Email” to reach Office 365. From there, you can use any of the Office 365 applications over the Web without having to install anything. This includes Outlook (email), Word, and others.

Installing Office 365 on Your Computer

Microsoft Office 365 can be installed on a desktop or laptop computer, or up to 5 devices (PCs, Macs, mobile devices) that you own.

  1. Log on to SIS (Peoplesoft Student Information Systems)
    See instructions above.
  2. On the top of the page, click “Email”
  3. Click the 9-dot menu in the upper left and choose “Office 365 ⇨”
  4. Click the "Install Office" button and choose "Office 365 apps"
  5. Follow the instructions to complete the installation
  6. When the installation is completed, open any of the Office applications, such as Word. When asked to accept the license, accept it.
  7. You may be asked to log in to your Office 365 account
    • Log in using your district email address (either @student.laccd.edu or @faculty.laccd.edu) and your SIS login password
