Located in the heart of Los Angeles and surrounded by Filipino Town, Little Armenia, Thai Town, East Hollywood, Koreatown, Silverlake, Echo Park, and Los Feliz, Los Angeles City College's student population is a reflection of our locale's diversity. The diversity of our student body necessitates that we approach teaching and learning outside the dominant culture's modality.   

Students do not necessarily share our learning experiences. We must be able to think creatively and use different learning pedagogies that reflect our understanding that diverse communities have diverse learning styles; in short, we must change our approach to teaching to meet the challenges facing our diverse student body. Our position is teaching and learning is a conversation that benefits Faculty and students. 

To begin this conversation, we focused on ways to foster Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in our teaching.  A committee of Faculty created a resource guide for City College Faculty to use as we begin to affirm our commitment to these issues. 

The guide's links are not prescriptions but rather references that can be used to assist the Faculty in thinking about diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching practice.  Like working papers, the guide will be modified as we develop essential conversations with the hope that it can assist us in creating favorable conditions for the success of our students.
