Library Cards

The Library does not issue library cards; to borrow library materials you need to present your LACC Cub ID card or Student ID from any of the LACCD nine campuses. Alternatively, if your Student ID is missing, an Unofficial Enrollment Verification plus one other current form of picture identification (e.g. California ID, California driver’s license, or a current passport) will be accepted.

College employees must complete an MLK Library Card Application and show a valid LACC Cub Card ID for Faculty or Staff in order to obtain a library card.

Overdue Fines

Library materials kept past their due date are subject to the following fine schedule.

  • 2-Hour Reserve Textbooks:  $1.00 per hour up to $100.00
  • Reserve Materials:  $1.00 per day up to $60.00
Lost Materials

All library users are responsible for lost library materials.  The replacement policy is as follows.

  • Circulating Books:  Replacement cost of a book, plus a $10.00 processing fee.
  • 2-Hour Reserve Textbooks:  Current price of the item, plus a $10.00 processing fee.
  • 7-Day Reserve Materials:  Current price of the item, plus a $10.00 processing fee.
  • Periodicals:  $10.00, plus a $2.00 processing fee.
Damaged Materials

Please report damage to the person at the Circulation Desk. Items which the Library judges to have been damaged by the borrower shall be evaluated by the Circulation/Periodicals Department and repair or replacement fees will be assessed based on the extent of the damage.

Library Holds

Students with outstanding fines or fees greater than $5.00 will not be allowed Library circulation privileges.  If fines or fees are not paid, students’ records will be placed on hold, and this will prevent any Admissions Offices processing, including, but not limited to, future registration, issuing of grades or transcripts, and graduation from the college.
Holds can be removed immediately upon return of overdue materials and/or payment of fines or replacement of fees.

Student Borrowing Policies Between Colleges

Current registered students from any LACCD campus can borrow regular circulating materials from any LACCD campus library.

Students wanting books from other campus libraries can either do an ILL (intra-library loan) request, or go directly to the campus library they want to borrow from.

Students can show any LACCD ID card, regardless of the campus. They all use the same ID number. When the ID card is scanned, the student must show as current, not expired, regardless of the campus.

Students must abide by the loan policies of the campus library they are borrowing from. This means:

  • Fines and fees incurred by students must be paid at the library the items were borrowed from.
  • Materials must be returned in person to the campus from which they were borrowed. If materials are accidentally returned to the wrong library, the patron will be contacted to retrieve the book and return it to the correct library.
  • Blocked students will be placed on hold (and cleared) through DEC at the library the materials were borrowed from.

This borrowing policy does not apply to reserve materials. Students may only borrow reserve materials from the campuses where they are currently enrolled. Since only the home campus is listed in the user record (Circulation System), students wanting to borrow reserve materials from another campus must show, by enrollment verification or class schedule, that they are enrolled in a class at that campus.
